Choosing a Hypnotherapist

I had an email earlier this evening asking “how do I find a good Hypnotherapist”. Well I am afraid there is no easy answer to that one.

The first thing you should obviously look for is qualifications, is the therapist you intend to use qualified to practise. In the UK there is a register you can trust, the GHR (General hypnotherapy Register). The GHR is possibly the largest register of Hypnotherapists in the UK, and further afield.

When I used to practice I was a member of the GHR and also as a teacher of Hypnotherapy I was a member of the GHSC (the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council).

Probably one of the best but most overlooked ways of finding a good Hypnotherapist is by personal recommendation, has someone you know used a local therapist?

If you feel that you really don’t want to, or you can not afford to, visit a Hypnotherapist there is always self help. There are many books available that can teach you self hypnosis but do not expect immediate or great result, by far the best way, other than using a therapist, is in using tapes, CDs or, a more modern approach, Hypnosis Downloads. They are instantly available on your PC and you can listen to the therapy sessions in the privacy of your own home.
